CRIME WATCH

Clarksville Police officers making a traffic stop and responding to a fight, in separate incidents, discovered a mobile methamphetamine lab and arrested a felon in possession of a handgun.

Raymond Harris, 32, who gave a 64 Dawson Ave. address, was charged with manufacture/sale/delivery of Schedule II drug when the meth lab was found in his car after he was stopped on suspicion of driving under the influence.

He also was charged with that offense and with driving on a revoked or suspended license, evading arrest, open container violation, violation of the implied consent law, and simple possession.

He was booked into Montgomery County Jail on Thursday, and bond was set at $51,250.

Corey Lamont Middleton, 30, who gave a 543 Aurelialynn Dr. address, was charged Thursday as a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to a police report, an officer responded to a fight in progress at 1600 Fort Campbell Blvd. and encountered Middleton.

The officer, according to the report, asked Middleton if he was in possession of a weapon and Middleton admitted he had a handgun in his pocket.

Police recovered a .380-caliber handgun and arrested Middleton, who also was charged with simple drug possession.

Bond was set at $750.

Check scam

According to a report from police spokesman Officer Jim Knoll, an Austin Peay State University student was contacted online and asked to cash a check for nearly $3,000 with the promise that she could keep $400 for herself.

The student responded on Craigslist to a job offer for a house cleaner. The suspect, according to the report, said he lived in London, England, but was moving to Clarksville. He sent the student a check for $2,846 and said that she could retain $400 and that the balance should be sent back to the suspect so he could make "travel arrangements."

The student did not cash the check, which police said was from Highlight Reality in Lake Worth, Fla.
